I had the immense pleasure of meeting Gerry just two short weeks ago and was overwhelmed at the kind and caring responce to myself and the two families I was referring to him,we had a lovely phone conversation that filled me with hope and joy. He then spoke to one of my mothers and she said"I felt like I had known him all my life by the time we finished talking" what an angel. What a priviledge to have spoken to him and listened to his unique way of looking at life. How very proud you all must be, thinking of you all and look forward to continuing our relationship with you all.

I saw Gerry inspire so many. I first had the honour of meeting Gerry in 1992 when I and three colleagues sought support from the CRE - of which he was a commissioner - in a race discrimination case against our employers. Gerrys support, clarity and analysis gave us the belief to challenge and succeed. In the following years I was able to benefit from Gerry's vision and wisdom when working as a journalist with The Voice newspaper and then as a Community Worker in south London. He was always unfailingly compassionate, consistent, clear and conscious. Gerry's energy and joy of life set an example for me and I am sure many others. I was honoured and blessed to have known him and know that his example will set standards for all to come. Remembering him with a smile and love to all who knew him. RESPECT.

Dear Gerry. What can I say that has not already been said by so many people whose lives have been touched by Gerry's deep convictions and insistence on natural justice?

I met Gerry more than ten years ago through my very good friend Michelle. Just the mention of his name was enough to put an end to a troublesome situation. Gerry's calmness, ability to see the bigger picture, along with the belief that we can all make a positive difference, will long be remembered. A true champion for our youth as well as those who support them. He had a wonderful, infectious sense of humour and despite the problems I presented to him, Gerry always managed to make me smile and believe that better must come,

One of God's shiniest stars whose light will always shine brightly.

Gerry met my father in Jamaica and was a key figure in my father finally settling in North Wales where he was engraced by the German family. Gerry attended my late father's funeral and sang beautifully, such an honour to meet him. In recent years, he visited my home and retold fascinating accounts of his life and stories of my heritage and forged contacts with my family overseas. Gerry is such a warm and charasmatic individual with a fascinating journey of his life to be told. He'll be sorely missed.....

Hmm! Gerry left us without saying goodbye, I will always remember his words of encouragement, his love and care, always giving hope to the hopeless. Will I ever have a boss like Gerry? who can take your place and be exactly like you, Gerry was very empowering. Gerry advocated on behalf of thousand of parents and children excluded from school, giving them his love and support. Gerry is a Legend and his legacy must continue.

CEN will continue to wax strong and we will really miss Gerry. Adieu Gerry, May his soul rest in peace.

The Society of Black Lawyers is both shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Gerry German. A comrade-in-arms, no-one has done more to champion the rights of children to a quality education by challenging the discriminatory and negative effects of school exclusions. A man of great integrity and conviction, German was a fearless advocate, campaigner and activist, displaying a youthful energy and passion that belied his years. It is fair to say that if you didn't know Gerry German, you knew It of him - such was his reputation. A legend. It goes without saying that Gerry will be sorely missed, but he has left us with a great gift in the form of the Communities Empowerment Network (CEN). We should therefore celebrate his life, his work, his contribution and his achievements. We should give thanks and praise that we even had the honour and pleasure of having Gerry for 84 years! His legacy and work will continue through CEN and in that sense, Gerry German will always be with us.

      Rest in Peace

It was a great privelage meeting Mr German when I entered Manchester High School 1962 and it is safe to say he was the best headmaster in Jamaica during those years. May his soul rest in peace. My prayers are with his family.

The sensitiveness of a poet, the charming eloquence of a charismatic speaker, the strength of a warrior, the wide sight of a good leader, the wise happiness of a child of God . . . YOU, Gerry Germain.

Thank you to have inspired our lives, even more !

I was just talking about Gerry last week, what an inspiration he was and how I hoped he was still around...just this morning I saw the e-mail. So he is still around and will be for so very long because someone with so much love and compassion inspires and touches so many. I feel that I need to make a new pledge to myself to make more effort to practice what I believe..somehow it was easier at work and so much tougher with my own children now! Thanks Gerry for touching my life too, sorry I didnt make it to the send-off. Love & bless
